Gift Giving in Japan (Oseibo)
Gift Giving in Japan (Oseibo・お歳暮)
What is Oseibo? Seibo (or Oseibo) is year-end gift. In Japan, there is a custom of presenting the gift to the indebted person in July and December. The one of July is called "Ochugen".
And the other one of December is called "Oseibo".
This "O" is a prefix applied when the word is politely paraphased.
We will present the Oseibo to an indebted person by December 1st to December 20th .

Japan - How To: Japanese Genkan (Entrance Hall)
Japan - How To: Japanese Genkan (Entrance Hall)
From Wikipedia
Genkan (玄関) are traditional Japanese entryway areas for a house, apartment, or building—something of a combination of a porch and a doormat. The primary function of genkan is for the removal of shoes before entering the main part of the house or building. Genkan are often recessed into the floor, to contain any dirt that is tracked in from the outside (as in a mud room). The tiled or concrete genkan floor is called tataki (三和土).
Upon entry, shoes are usually turned to face the door so they can be slipped on easily when leaving or placed into a getabako. After removing shoes, one must avoid stepping in the genkan in socks or with bare feet, to avoid bringing dirt into the house. Once inside, generally one will change into slippers, or shoes intended for indoor wear (Uwabaki).
Genkan are also occasionally found in other buildings in Japan, especially in old-fashioned businesses. In schools and sentō (public baths), genkan are equipped with shoe lockers or cubby holes.

Abandoned Japan: Mining Apartments
Abandoned Japan: Mining Apartments
We take a look around an abandoned mining apartment (landslide mining apartments/ 峰之沢鉱山) in Shizuoka prefecture, Japan. These apartment buildings have been abandoned for over 50 years but are in really good condition.
I get a little scared in my walk around the buildings but have a great time and would like to go back again to these abandoned buildings in Japan.
Check out TheJapanOnlineChannel.com for photos, thoughts and details on how to get to the amazing abandoned place in Japan.
