Japanese House Tour

Japanese House Tour

A look around a very typical house in Japan built in the 1980s. We lived in this house for 5 years. It was very cool in the summer but very cold in the winter which lead us to move out into a much newer house.

Japanese Culture - Bean Throwing Festival

Japanese Culture - Bean Throwing Festival - 節分日本

Setsubun (節分, Bean-Throwing Festival or Bean-Throwing Ceremony) is the day before the beginning of Spring in Japan. The name literally means "seasonal division", but usually the term refers to the Spring Setsubun, properly called Risshun (立春) celebrated yearly on February 3 as part of the Spring Festival (春祭 haru matsuri). In its association with the Lunar New Year, Spring Setsubun can be and was previously thought of as a sort of New Year's Eve, and so was accompanied by a special ritual to cleanse away all the evil of the former year and drive away disease-bringing evil spirits for the year to come. This special ritual is called mamemaki (豆撒き) (literally "bean throwing"). Wiki:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Setsubun

Halloween in Japan - Baskin Robbins

Halloween in Japan - Baskin Robbins (バスキン・ロビンス) Yes that is right. Halloween in Japan seems strange doesn't it but like Christmas it is here. People love it but a part from buying lots of cool halloween things they don't celebrate it like in the USA.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijIlgiaYAkI

Fukuroi Fireworks - 袋井遠州花火

Every year in Japan, during the hot, humid summer months, people gather in various outdoor locations to enjoy fireworks. The shows are often impressive, with hundreds to thousands of fireworks of varying sizes, colors and designs. One larger and famous fireworks festivals in Japan happens every year in Fukuroi city, Shizuoka Prefecture. They put on quite the show, and is certainly worth viewing with the thousands of blasts they shoot off that night.

Not Your Usual Vending Machine - Japan

So this looks like your average vending machine right? Well this one is a little different in that is sells the normal snacks that you can buy at the convenience store or supermarkets. Usually a vending machine will sell normal drinks but will sell some snacks that you can only find at certain vending machines.

Lamb and something for dinner

Went out for dinner with the family the otHer night and this was what came out. Interesting?! Still not sure what it was! ;)
It has been almost a year since I had lamb in any shape or form so it was nice to have it for dinner even though it was a little tough.

Bicycle Parking in Japan

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7l_2EtTWDA

Bicycle Parking in Japan
Japan has been trying to fade out parking the bicycle in front of the station for free so here we see a bicycle park so that people can park their bikes. It requires a fee but better than getting a ticket from the police or even worst having your bike stolen.
