This spring Family Mart released, Sakura Mikuman (.Hatsune Miku de Sakura no Uta campaign), and it is adorable. Mikuman isn't nikuman. It's anman which is a dumpling filled with anko rather than meat.  Anko is a sweet red azuki bean paste often used in Japanese confections and deserts.

The Hamamatsu Ganko festival was held yesterday, 16th and today, 17 March 2013.  This is the 13th Dance festival to be held in Hamamatsu city, Shizuoka Prefecture.
They had over 125 teams, 4800 dances.
We went there today and saw some of the groups dancing and it was amazing to watch.

Spring has arrived and we had our first lunch outside.  The girls love to eat outside. of course spring is great. The weather is nice and lots of fun and interesting things happen over spring. One such event is the cherry blossom season which happens around the middle to end of April.

Us putting up the girls Hina Dolls for the Hinamatsuri.  It took us over an hour to do. The girls love their dolls and go into the room every day to say hello to the dolls.

The Japanese Doll Festival (雛祭り Hina-matsuri), or Girls' Day, is held on March 3. Usually platforms covered with a red carpet are used to display a set of ornamental dolls (雛人形 hina-ningyō) representing the Emperor, Empress, attendants, and musicians in traditional court dress of the Heian period. Of course there are many different times of dolls which you can see in this video.

Taiyaki - たい焼き is a Japanese fish-shaped cake. The most common filling is red bean paste that is made from sweetened azuki beans. Other common fillings may be custard, chocolate, or cheese.
たい焼き（鯛焼き、たいやき、タイヤキ）は、鯛の焼き型に入れて焼いた、餡（あん）入りで小麦粉主体の和菓子である。明治時代から食べられている日本の菓子の一つ[1]だが、20世紀末期以降は餡に替えて別の食材を詰めたものも見られる。

Takoyaki - たこ焼きis a ball-shaped Japanese snack made of a wheat flour-based batter and cooked in a special takoyaki pan. It is typically filled with minced or diced octopus, tempura scraps (tenkasu), pickled ginger, and green onion. Takoyaki are brushed with takoyaki sauce, a sauce similar to Worcestershire sauce, and mayonnaise. The takoyaki is then sprinkled with green laver (aonori) and shavings of dried bonito (katsuobushi).
たこ焼き（たこ焼、蛸焼、たこやき）は、日本生まれの粉物料理の一種。小麦粉の生地の中にタコ（主としてマダコかミズダコ）を入れて直径 3-5cm ほどの球形に焼き上げた、大阪発祥とされる料理である。

This video of a Japanese fire truck was taken at the local Emergency Drill practice day.
The sound the fire truck makes is different to the normal sound it would make when it is going to a fire. This is the sound it makes when it is going around the community.  They often drive around just to let people know to be careful of fire.

My Girls made these plates for me. They use some sort of colour pens and draw whatever they want on the plates then cook them in the oven for 10-20minutes and then you can use them as normal plates.

The other day we took the kids Ice Skating at the Hamamatsu sport arena. It was their first time skating but they both liked it. Reka did very well on her first try and now wants to go back again.

This is a video of 2 Tsunami evacuation towers in Hamamatsu city, Shizuoka Prefecture.
The towers were built after the Tsunami that hit the Northern part of Japan. They are over 10 meters high so that they can withstand a 10 meter high Tsunami that the Pacific Ocean side of Japan from Tokyo to Nagoya is expecting over the next few years.

Japanese Dango - 団子 @Hattsan - 法多山

Japanese Dango - 団子 is a Japanese mochi shaped into either a round ball or a long block like in this video. They are served with three to four dango on a skewer. The Hattasan Dango's are also served with Anko (Red bean paste) on top of each Dango. Dango is eaten year-round, but the different varieties are traditionally eaten in given seasons.

団子（だんご）は、米などの穀物の粉に水やお湯を加えてこねて、蒸したり茹でたりしてできた餅を小さくまるめた菓子である。

The Rugby 7's is coming back to Tokyo

Well this is great news for rugby and Japan. It has been awhile since I have been to see 7's rugby and so when they announced that it would be coming back to Japan I was over the moon. I watch every tournament on the Telly, ie computer here in Japan so to have the chance to go and see some of my heroes of 7's rugby is a chance one can't miss.

This is over a week old now but still interesting.  The news about this young girl (20) from the popular girls group, AKB48 and what she has done has been all over the news in Japan and she even made an apology video on YouTube which got millions of views from all around the world. Well now people are discussing whether this is crazy gender equality or just drama to sell more records. I am not one for drama but it is interesting to read different peoples' reactions from both here in Japan and overseas.
